Warren Buffett’s company reported a steep drop in earnings Saturday because the paper value of its investments fell and it sold off some Apple shares, but the tens of thousands of shareholders filling an Omaha arena to hear Buffett answer questions at the annual meeting later can take heart that Berkshire Hathaway’s many businesses performed well. But this year a key ingredient is missing because it's the first meeting since Vice Chairman Charlie Munger died. Munger was famous in his own right for delivering zingers and sage advice. But his absence might create an opening for shareholders to learn more about the low-profile man who will one day replace Buffett as CEO. Boeing is finally poised to launch astronauts to the International Space Station for NASA after years of delays and stumbles. It’s the first flight of Boeing’s Starliner capsule with a crew on board. A pair of veteran NASA pilots will check out the spacecraft during the test drive and a weeklong stay at the space station. Liftoff is planned for Monday night from Cape Canaveral, Florida. NASA turned to U.S. companies for astronaut rides after the space shuttles retired. Elon Musk's SpaceX has made nine taxi trips for NASA, while Boeing has managed only a pair of unoccupied test flights. Workers have begun removing a bridge over a Connecticut highway that was damaged in a fiery crash involving a gasoline tanker truck. The demolition that began Friday is expected to keep both sides of Interstate 95 in Norwalk closed through the weekend and extend a traffic nightmare on the major artery linking New England and New York. Gov. Ned Lamont says the plan is still to reopen the highway on Monday morning. Crews are expected to finish removing the bridge by Sunday morning, and road repairs will be made. The tanker truck burst into flames under the overpass after colliding with two other vehicles Thursday. The cause remains under investigation.
